Hi, I'm John

I’ve been working with technology across many different industries for over 25 years - as a senior technical manager as well as a start-up co-founder - and it’s taught me a whole lot about how to leverage technology to achieve business goals. Along the way, I’ve also learned how to design and implement big-business solutions for lean organisations at a fraction of the usual cost.

One of my proudest achievements is co-founding the national animal welfare charity, PetRescue. Since 2004, PetRescue has helped well over half a million pets find new homes, helped thousands of animal welfare organisations achieve their goals, and facilitated tens of millions of dollars in food and product donations.

PetRescue is the most visited charity website in Australia, with around seven million Australians using our services every year. Designing and building a platform of this scale has been a amazing opportunity, and has allowed me to develop a unique set of skills in building high-traffic, high-uptime online systems.

I don't side with one vendor over another, because consultants that do that can't always see the best solution for a unique challenge. I prefer Macs over PCs, but Android smartphones over iPhones. Amazon Web Services is amazing, but Google's G Suite is some of the best work I've ever seen.

I prefer to keep an open mind, and choose the right tools to provide the best solution for each individual situation.

No lock-in contracts. No BS.

I don't force you to sign up to a ‘maintenance program', or ongoing contractual payments. That's not how I like to be treated as a customer, so it's not how I treat my clients.

Instead I bill on an hourly basis, or quote for a project build or implementation. I keep things clean, simple and honest.

How I work with you.

I'm a straight-up, chilled out kinda guy. I like to start with a short initial chat, in-person or via video chat, so you can give me a quick outline of the technical challenges you’re facing or just tell me, straight up, what you need.

Then we'll deep-dive into those technical challenges with an hour-long session, or a week-long session, depending on what we're taking on. I'll talk with you to understand your long-term goals, your plans, and your budget. And, if appropriate, I'll talk with your team, external vendors, whatever is necessary to best understand the problem.

Armed with all this knowledge, I'll then map out a tailored solution to your challenge, and provide a quote for completing the work required.

A little bit more about me.

I've worked with technology across mining, construction, medical, retail, non-profit, insurance, advertising and banking, in senior technical or management roles. I've also co-founded a national animal welfare charity, a web hosting company, several bespoke software companies, a record label and a yoga studio, so I understand what it's like to try to achieve your technology goals on a limited budget.

It’s this diverse experience, working for corporates, non-profits and bootstrapped startups alike, that’s developed my ability to work creatively. To utilise emerging technology platforms. To design and implement big-business solutions at a fraction of the usual cost.
